Woke up. It was a Chelsea morning. And the first thing that I saw … WEEDS!

Morning Glory Pano

It’s that time of year. The temps are cool and yard work is actually bearable — when I have the energy. Sadly, the work ahead is clearing out the massive amounts of weeds I let overtake the garden this summer.

The temps were in the nineties for weeks on end. Even the mornings started out in the high seventies and eighties.

Between the morning glories overtaking everything plus the weeds and grasses, it’s a gargantuan task. If only I had help. Hmmm,

But no. Just me right now, working within my limits.

Fall Weeding

Mind you I didn’t post to whine. I posted because yesterday was such a wonderful morning. I was out in the yard at sunrise. Hell I’d already been up since 4:00 AM. I was kind of itching to get up and actually do some yard work.

I started by working on pulling morning glory vines from off the fence. It’s wild to see how long one vine can actually be 10 to 20 feet. It’s surreal. Especially how tightly they wrap around the wires of the fence. Regardless — gloved and ready — I went to town. For as long as I could.

At one point, after having gotten pretty far down the fence line, I took a break. I sat on my back porch and just soaked in the sun — as if to recharge my soul and my batteries. The sun felt so good on my face. I soaked it in. And of course I had to take some selfies with my new iPhone 18 Pro Max. Of course!

In the days previous, I attacked the front and front corner. New titanium hedge cutters in hand. I started chopping the overgrown decorative grass I have in the front corner. Eventually I’ll dig those up, quarter them, and replant. That needed doing last year. Never happened. So this year they were just overtaking everything.

Rest of the time I use my EGO weed whacker to trim the other weeds and grasses down to the dirt. Then raking all that out into a huge pile. The ideal thing would be to totally clear all 150 feet of side garden, cardboard it, and put down 4 inches of mulch. Ideally. Guess we’ll see how that pans out. Though I think I’ll wait for all the leaves to fall off the trees. This way if I get a ChipDrop there will be fewer leaves in with the wood chips. We’ll see.

Meanwhile the rose bush in the front had some new visitors. It’s always somethings! Time to try out the new lenses on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Also it’s great that Siri can tell me what they are from the photos. Plus Siri can tell me how to get rid of them. Geeking and gardening. Got to love it!

Western Spotted Cucumber Beetles (Diabrotica undecimpunctata)
They are known to feed on the petals and leaves of roses and other ornamental plants. While the adults feed on the foliage and flowers of many plants, their larvae primarily feed on the roots.

That was my day yesterday. Unfortunately … all that vine pulling left me in a lot of pain in my right hand tendons and forearm, Yippee! Lots of Ibuprofen and ice packs last night and this morning, I’ll be taking it easier today.

And so it goes here in IndeMO. 👍
