The Talking Heads @ CW Post 1978

The Talking Heads @ CW Post 1978Back in 1978 I was attending CW Post Center of Long Island University. I was a communications major. I aspired to be a radio DJ like my radio heros Vince Scelsa & Dave Herman from WNEW FM in New York. There were other reason that brought me back to school … and yes Bruce was one of them.

I also experienced a friend dying from carbon monoxide poisoning because he was too drunk to get into his house. He slept in his car with the motor running so he’d stay warm … and never woke up. But I certainly did! I didn’t want my legacy to be one of drinking and drugging in some backwater town in the Jersey pine barrens.

Baby this town rips the bones from your back
It’s a death trap, it’s a suicide rap
We gotta get out while we’re young …

So back to school I went. On some level it didn’t matter what I went for, anything was better than Lanoka. I’d still have my friends there …. but it was time to get on with my life.

Sorry for the long winded and somber introduction but sometimes you have to put things in historical context. I’ve always been into music, on either side of the stage or either end of the camera. Taking picts of other bands, or being in my band, or just playing for myself on my trusty Taylor. I’ve photographed a lot of bands in my time, Talking Heads, Mink Deville, The Police, The Clash, Elvis Costello, Gang of Four, The A’s, Jr Smoots and many others … national and local.

I’ve posted newly scanned picts of The Talking Heads at CW Post circa 1978. God those were good years! There was so much new music happening. Earthshattering new music. I’ve always been glad to have been there to witness so much of it first hand, either through live shows, or playing so much new music on my WCWP radio show.

Hope you enjoy! :)
