Two-story white house with a front porch and snow-covered yard in a suburban neighborhood during winter. The driveway is clear, and a black SUV is parked outside, with leafless trees and a bright blue sky in the background.

The white blanket began a day before in the early morn’. Sub zeros and a penchant for staying safe and warn I dallied about the house all day and night. The inches accumulated. The mercury plummeted. I stayed in and watched the snow in all it’s beauty.

A day after and it’s a sub-zero February morning in IndeMo. The blue sky belies the frigid air and the task at hand. The warmth of the home feeds the want to remain. Up at 5:00 AM but I certainly wasn’t going out in the morning darkness — didn’t think my neighbors would appreciate that, nor the sound of a whirring machine.

Snow-covered residential sidewalk and driveway with parked cars during winter, clear blue sky, and leafless trees in a quiet neighborhood.

As the sun rose and the temperature remained at zero — I began the accumulation of layers. A burdensome task indeed; but oh so necessary with a windchill of minus ten. Three layers each upper and lower, not including a hoodie, hat, and insulated winter jacket. Rubber gloved hands into thermal snow gloves. The rubber was to decrease the shocks received from snow on the battery and blower. Even at my age — I’m still learning and adapting.

In my first year here — I shoveled. In my first year here — my back complained. Comes a time when you need to listen.

It’s only been recently I’ve started using a leaf blower to move the snow with little to no effort. Just a determination to be downwind of the snow stream.

Sometimes yes. Sometimes no.

But we all must work within the construct or suffer the consequences.

Home Sweet Home 02

The whole thing took less than an hour. And when the job was nicely done: I came indoors and had some fun.

The creative nerd in me knew my doorbell cam took video every time I passed it. So I viewed each video, decided what I wanted to use, then downloaded Apple’s iMove, and went to town. I “auditioned” many songs to be the soundtrack, but Matt Pond PA’s Snow Day won out. There is just something about this song that I have loved for a very long time.

And that was my day. I really do have to say it was fun — all the way around. I’m glad I listened to my better self yesterday and stayed inside. Today was a glorious blue sky day! Oh so clean and crisp. Even with sub-zero wind chill. Cold? What cold?

Hope you enjoy my little vid! Hope your Snow Day went as well!
