It started at 4:44 AM this January 20, 2026. I lazed in bed for a whole sixteen minutes and arose by 5:00. Such luxury.
“Let’s get this party started!” Pretty much what I say every morning — to the cats.
Not so sure how it was for my mom sixty-nine years ago. For that matter not sure what time I was even born. Hopefully she had time for coffee, breakfast, and the morning papers. But most likely it was coffee breakfast, and morning papers for my dad, and my two siblings. Who knows. Not like I can ask her any longer. I’ve tried those connections through the ether—to no avail.
So it’s my birthday. Just me & the kitties. Little bastards—thought there’s be coffee breakfast, and the papers for me. But that whole … no opposing thumbs things. What a drag!
Shit. Shower. Shave. Feed the cats. Then it’s coffee time. Welcome to single life in the last year of my sixties.
With coffee and avocado toast in hand, time to rev up the M4 Mac Mini & really start my day. Feet up on the desk. Nosh on toast and coffee and start the morning surf. Check my blog statistics. Check for WordPress plugins updates. Check under the hood. Dollar gas.
Check Facebook Memories. Start posting to Facebook. Reacting to birthday wishes. Making a few birthday related posts myself. An so on and so on and so on.
And this goes for or a few hours. Really.

How oxymoronic could they be? ICE ≠ Liberty. That’s for damn sure!

Then it was time for birthday sushi @ Blue Sushi & Sake Bar in Westwood. It’s my fave place to go. It really is a treat for me. It’s a little spendee for me … so it is very rare. Good thing I had a $20 off coupon. They have the best vegan sushi going! Bar none. (no pun intended) Yum!

Mud Pie Vegan Bakery
And for the finale … a vegan brownie (no candles) & black coffee. Stopped at Mud Pie Bakery in Mission, KS on my way home from birthday sushi @ Blue Sushi & Sake Bar. Yelped “vegan cake bakery nearby” and found this place 5 minutes away. Nice! A little sweet treat to finish off the afternoon. ❤️🎂❤️
Sooooo …. that was my day. Pretty good, all in all. I may have started a little down … but SUSHI BABY! That & all my FB birthday wishes certainly helped. Top that off with a brownie & black coffee? I’m easy. What can I tell you.
Happy Birthday, Joe! Damn! You made it another year. On the road to my 70s? It’s all good. Age happens.
